About the university
Your world-class education begins here
Explore, discover, grow through research and teaching that makes a difference to people and societies, the natural world and built environment.
Offering excellence in teaching and research, JCU has campuses in Townsville and Cairns in Australia, and in Singapore which welcome more than 18,000 students, including over 6,000 international students from over 100 different countries. JCU’s location gives students a rare opportunity to study in the natural, tropical environment. With the Great Barrier Reef to the east, the Daintree Rainforest to the north and Australia’s outback to the west, students will gain invaluable experience that is unique to JCU. With location in mind, JCU conducts nationally significant and internationally recognised research in areas such as marine sciences, biodiversity, tropical ecology and environments, global warming, tourism, and tropical medicine and public health care in under-served populations.
Student placements, projects, clinical practice and fieldwork are central to JCU’s learning and teaching approach. Our students have the opportunity to take part in a wide-range of hands-on experiences which are informed by industry best practice and designed to prepare for the future of work.
One of the most appealing aspects of living in a tropical location is the relaxed lifestyle. We take the time to appreciate the natural beauty of our surroundings and enjoy the weather that is warm and sunny almost every day of the year.
